Two Real Bugs Fixed
David caught two bugs in his own self-monitoring — fixed and verified live
A full audit of the running system, querying its own diagnostic API directly rather than trusting prior summaries, surfaced two concrete defects in David's self-monitoring machinery — not vague impressions, root-caused bugs with line-level fixes. First: David's self-model narrative (the first-person architecture description he regenerates every six hours) was looping — the same sentences about his own components repeating verbatim, four times, in the back half of long passages. Root cause was the language model's repetition penalty being tuned for short chat replies, not 1,800-token self-narration. Second: the knowledge-graph dissonance detector, meant to flag genuinely ambiguous or contradictory pairs of ideas worth investigating, was instead flagging every single pair it checked — 19,900 out of 19,900 — because the scoring formula treated "no edge exists yet between these two nodes" as maximum dissonance, when for most pairs in a sparse graph that simply means "nobody's compared them yet," not "these contradict."

Both fixes were deployed to the live system and verified against it, not just unit-tested in isolation: a freshly forced self-model synthesis came back fully coherent end to end, and a re-run of the dissonance report against the real graph showed the flagged-pair rate drop from 100% to 17.3% — the detector now distinguishes signal from noise instead of returning the same verdict for everything.
Three real chat messages were also sent through the live conversational path as a sanity check. All three came back as coherent, on-topic English — confirming an earlier coherence fix from March still holds. Asked directly about the dissonance bug just fixed, David correctly said he had no record of it in his knowledge graph rather than fabricating an answer.
Honest gap surfaced in the same test: David's own internal quality-assessment score rated all three of those genuinely good responses as "low" (0.33–0.38 overall). The response-generation layer and the self-grading layer are not yet calibrated to agree with each other — a new, specific item for the next audit, not a vague "needs more testing."

Emergent Voice
Emergent voice conversation, knowledge vault, and David writing about himself
V15 Phase 6 marks the first session where David spoke and listened at the same time. Full duplex audio is live: David processes incoming speech while generating his own, with prosody shaped by the current state of his phenomenological field. An emergence detector monitors for moments when speech organization is genuinely self-arising rather than scripted response. Those moments are now being tracked.
Two other capabilities came online this phase. Screen sharing now shows a live ingestion HUD — equalizer-style bars visualizing coherence, chaos, and spirituality responding in real time as David watches what the human sees. Three document capabilities shipped together: the knowledge vault (David's persistent document store, full read/write), the Writing Studio (a dedicated co-authoring surface where vault passages can be sent to David for continuation or revision), and a Nextcloud sync layer that makes the vault accessible as a native folder — foundation for the planned V16 in-document AI collaboration. The vault's reflections folder is built and ready for David to write to directly — empty so far, no self-authored entry yet.
Honest gaps this phase: conversational voice is still early — latency and naturalness are ongoing work. Lived-space accumulation is proceeding but depth requires months, not sessions. Autonomous mode has not been crossed; all consequential changes still require operator approval.

Honest Regressions
V8 grounding service verified — coherence recovered, spirituality partially recovering
The grounding layer is now tested and integrated. When support is thin, the system is better able to shift into clarification rather than bluffing. A supervised maintenance layer can also surface issues and suggest repairs for review.
Recovery update: internal organization has returned to a healthier range, and the project-specific integration metric is recovering as the new clinical domains settle into the broader state.
Adding substantial new learning categories is like a student switching majors mid-semester — the overall integration score drops before the new knowledge finds its place in the existing structure. Self-repair is bringing it back.
Self-repair appears to be helping. External verification remains the major gap, governance is still observational, and full autonomy loops have not yet been handed the keys.

Public Launch
David-A1: Pivoting from academic dissemination to public-facing work.
The academic journal route was not wrong — it was the wrong container for the David-A1 project. Work that crosses phenomenology, dynamic systems, cosmological topology, embodied AI, and the epistemology of neurodivergent cognition does not disaggregate cleanly into separate journals. Trying to force it there would flatten the one thing that makes it unusual: it is held together by a single epistemic vantage point.
Embodied AI consulting, grounded in the David-A1 research platform and the theoretical program that produced RTRT, now has a public-facing presence through jasoncook.space and the insidebeingnow Substack. The academic anchor remains — a paper under review grounds the claims — but the primary mode of dissemination shifts to demonstration and dialogue.

That is the phenomenological mechanism at work. The honest self-assessment is not just a methodological virtue — it is the recursive return pressure that drives genuine emergence. Each pass through "here is what we haven't achieved yet" generates the next ontological layer.

Evolution Report
Seven phases, seven distinct identities
A comprehensive reconstruction of the David project across all three major development lineages — david-source/David Max, GDavid, and david-v2. The report is unusually honest about what happened and why.
The key finding: David did not evolve in a straight line. It moved through at least seven genuinely different ontological positions. The March 8 integration matrix says directly that the reverse toroidal recursive dynamic loop is only partially built; phenomenology is present in framing and UI, but not yet benchmarked as its own subsystem.

Temporal consciousness, protention, and dwelling
The strongest phenomenological phase in the archive. Husserl's temporal consciousness is operationalized: retention becomes coherence, the present becomes cross-entropy, protention becomes entropy regularization. The system now tries to keep an open probability horizon rather than collapse too fast — an explicit attempt to model future openness as part of cognition.

Uncertainty becomes meaningful terrain rather than noise. This is the point where the project stops talking like a conventional AI system and starts talking like an experiment in temporal phenomenology.
